Make Your Home Feel Like a Spa
It’s not that I hate winter. It’s just that it’s my least favourite season. I know there are people out there who adore it – the skiing, the snowboarding, the absence of the suffocating summer humidity… I am not one of those people. During the winter, all I want to do is wrap myself in the thickest, fluffiest blanket I can find and park myself on the couch until spring.
But whether you love the season or not, there’s something to be said for making your home feel extra cozy and warm during the colder months. Why not create a comforting escape – or a welcoming refuge to recharge in following your outdoor activities? Inspired by the décor here at Nordik Spa-Nature, here are three ways to make your home feel like a spa retreat this winter.
1 – Considering lighting
As the days get shorter, we end up having the lights on in the house more often than not. Harsh, bright lights can not only mess with your circadian rhythm, they can also contribute to headaches and eye strain. Plus, they make a room look cold and uninviting! Consider lighting your home with reading lamps fitted with warm hued light bulbs or even some candles for an extra calming, cozy effect. If you’re lucky enough to have a fireplace, take advantage of it! The sound of the crackling fireplace combined with the flickering light and radiant warmth is enough to make your home feel like an escape all on its own.
2 – Liven up your space with some green
With a thick layer of snow on the ground and the absence of leaves on the trees, everything can seem a little dull and dreary. Houseplants bring nature indoors, adding life and a bright, cheerful quality to your space. On a practical level, they help to improve the air quality in your home during a season that’s known for its dry, stale air. In addition, studies have shown that houseplants can help us to de-stress, boost our mood, and promote concentration. They’re also an easy way to bring a dose of charm to your interior décor! With a few well-placed plants, your home will feel friendly and calming.
3 – Accessorize!
Don’t underestimate the impact that a few small additions can have on your space. A comfy throw pillow and a chunky knit blanket draped effortlessly over a couch or an armchair can instantly introduce an inviting atmosphere to your home. Consider accessories that may not necessarily fall into the décor category but will add to the cozy vibe all the same: fluffy socks or slippers and soft pyjamas will help you to unwind in the space you’ve created. All that’s left to do is kick-back and enjoy!
