Stay Hydrated: Our Favourite Infused Waters

Stay Hydrated: Our Favourite Infused Waters

  • July 13, 2021

Often called “spa water”, infused waters are a quick and easy way to make drinking your 8 glasses a day a tad more exciting. Adding flavours, benefits, and a bit of colour to your water with basic ingredients is as refreshing as it is simple!

What should I use to infuse my water?

Fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs are great options to add flavours to your water. When possible, opt for local in-season fruits and veggies. Simply allow your fruits to float in your glass, pitcher or use an infusion bottle or pitcher if you have one on hand.

Can I eat the fruits in my glass?

Absolutely! However, you will most likely be disappointed. Expect something more watery than flavourful – the water will take on the flavour of the fruit whilst the fruit will take on more water.

How long should you keep infusions?

In the refrigerator, you can typically keep infused water for approximately 48 hours. Typically, infusions are their best 2 to 4 hours after they’ve been made or overnight. Some ingredients—like rosemary—last far longer than others.

Is drinking infused water healthy?

In short, yes. Staying hydrated and ensuring your intake of water is sufficient is incredibly important. If adding fruits, herbs and veggies to your water helps you drink more—it’s healthy! Drinking water increases your metabolism, provides your body with extra energy, helps prevent muscle cramps, improves your judgment and mood, improves the look and feel of skin, prevents headaches, keeps your body healthy and happy!

Furthermore, depending on what you are using, you may also be adding extra nutrients to your cup!

  • Lemons—contain a high amount of vitamin C, aid with fluid retention and bloating.
  • Mint—reduces inflammation and soothes upset stomachs.
  • Oranges—boost your immune system and contain a high amount of vitamin C.
  • Cucumbers—promote hydration, reduce bloating and high in vitamin K, B and C.
  • Limes—help with digestion, contain a high amount of vitamin C and antioxidants.
  • Rosemary—rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds.
  • Ginger—soothes upset stomachs, boosts your immune system and rich in antioxidants.
  • Strawberries—boost your immune system and contain a high amount of fibres, vitamins and antioxidants.

Our favourite infused waters combinations

Experimenting is highly recommended when infusing your water with flavours, but if you’d like some inspiration, here are our favourites:

Strawberry, Lemon & Basil

Classic lemon water will never go out of style, but for a little something extra, add some strawberries and basil! To enhance flavours, muddle your strawberries.

Cucumber, Lime & Mint

A healthy twist on a mojito.

Blackberry, Orange & Ginger

Why not try something new? The spice from the ginger really brings it all together.

Blueberry, Lemon & Rosemary

A little bit of sweet, savoury and sour make for the perfect infusion.

Peach, Raspberry & Ginger

Peaches and raspberries fall in season at similar times. It’s no surprise they go so well together!

Cantaloupe, Cucumber & Mint

Cantaloupe is the kind of fruit that often gets left behind, but it’s perfect for water infusions—adding both flavour and colour!

Grapefruit & Rosemary

Simple and highly effective! Blood orange could substitute grapefruit or be a colourful addition.

Watermelon, Kiwi & Lime

What better than a glass of water that looks and tastes exactly like summer?

Passion fruit or Pomegranate Seeds & Mint

Lovers of bubble tea may appreciate the chewing factor that comes with passion fruits or pomegranate seeds!

Experimenting with your water infusion is a great way to increase your daily intake and discover new flavours. What’s in your glass?
