How To Practice Self-Love This Valentine’s Day

How To Practice Self-Love This Valentine’s Day

  • February 4, 2019

Valentine’s Day is the time of year to focus on the special someone in your life. What we tend to forget is that the most special person in our lives is ourselves. Put yourself first, because when you come to know and love yourself, you’ll be able to love others stronger and deeper than before. Take this holiday as a chance to learn how to make small changes that can help you love yourself better than ever.

Check out these simple ways to practice self-love, so you can be your own Valentine this year.

Have fun

We may be busy with work and everyday life, but that doesn’t mean we should forget about having fun. Remember how important playtime was when we were younger? It still is. Just because you’re older, doesn’t mean you should lose that sense of wonder. Make leisure a priority by doing things you’re interested in, spending time with people who makes you laugh, and enjoying yourself on a daily basis. Find the fun in everything and anything, because balancing work and play is key to a happier and healthier you. Take the time to have a good time, you’ll be better off because of it.

Put your phone away

Most of us will regrettably admit that we’re addicted to our smartphones. Between that, your computer screen and your TV, your mind is always being overstimulated and you’re constantly distracted from what’s really going on in front of you. Taking a break from your gadgets will help you get in touch with reality, those around you, and with yourself. Stop scrolling, even for a few hours a day, and you’ll notice how your stress and anxiety will be reduced, your memory will improve, and your sleep will be more sound.

Enjoy some alone time

Even if we may have many people that rely on us on a daily basis, it’s important to remember that taking time for yourself is a necessity, not a luxury. We shouldn’t feel guilty about spending quality time with ourselves, and you don’t need an excuse to enjoy some alone time. This doesn’t mean you have to go backpacking around Europe on your own or that you should rent a hotel room every once in a while to sleep alone. Even taking a few hours to put yourself first and to not be concerned with everyone else can make a world of difference. Recharge and reset by reconnecting with yourself.

Take care of yourself.

Respecting yourself goes hand in hand with loving yourself, and you can do so by taking care of your body. Eat right, exercise, relax, stop worrying about the things you can’t change and let go of that feeling of guilt. Do things that make you feel better about yourself, whether that means eating a nice meal or taking a nap. The spa experience benefits both your body and mind. Thermotherapy, offered in the thermal cycle at Nordik Spa-Nature, promotes improved mental and physical health.

Because it’s a day centered around love, Valentine’s Day is the best time to give yourself the love you deserve. Having fun, putting your phone away, enjoying some alone time, and taking care of yourself are easy ways to practice self-care so you can be your happiest and healthiest self.
